Ipatiev V.V. (Jr), Yur’ev S.I. The effect of temperature on electromotive forces of certain half-cells // Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii. 1931. V. 1. P. 549-556, in Russian. The article is affiliated with Chemical Institute of the Academy of Sciences, where high pressure lab of V.N. Ipatiev existed before his escape from USSR. His son Vladimir Vladimirovich Ipatiev (Jr) (1897-1955) continued in Leningrad, was finally arrested at the end of 1930s, and spent about decade in the camps.

Porfirov P.P. The role of transition resistance in the hydrogen overpotential phenomenon // Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii. 1934. V. 4. P. 1311-1321, in Russian. The article is of interest because of early (probably naive) technique to measure the resistance of films at the electrode surface. Petr Petrovich Porfirov (1903-1942) worked in Mining University. This article is affiliated with Mekhanobr (the former division of this institution related to mechanical treatment of minerals). The author died of exhaustion in the course of evacualtion from the desieged Leningrad.

Akhumov E.I., Vasiliev B.B. Electrolysis of sodium chloride in liquid ammonia. Communication I // Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii. 1935. V. 5. P. 334-342, in Russian. Before WWII, Evgenyi Ivanovich Akhumov (1907-?) was affiliated with the Institute of Applied Chemistry. He worked on electrolytic formation of hydrides, amides, and cyanides. Later he was known for the studies of the oversaturated aqueous solutions of salts. This article is dedicated to V.A. Kistyakovskyi, whom the authors name their teacher. Participation of M.P. Golovkov and N.A. Goncharov (student) is mentioned. See the later articles published in 1935, in 1936 (Part II of this article) and in 1937.

Getsov B.B. Electrolytic etching of <steel> micro- and macro-sections // Zavodskaya Laboratoriya. 1937. V. 6. P. 241-242, in Russian. Central Lab of Kirov Plant (named Putilov Plant during 1868-1922 period)l this huge machinery manufacturing plant was founded in 1801. Boris Benediktovich Getsov (1898-1938), metallurgical engineer, returned to Russia in 1934 after education and work in Wien. He was arrested and shot as “German spy”.

Nessel’shtraus G.Z. Simplified reference electrode (half-cell) for potentiometric analysis // Zavodskaya Laboratoriya. 1938. V. 7. P. 1202, in Russian. Central Lab of Kirov Plant. Genrikh Zundelevich Nessel’shtraus (1888-1962) was metallurgical engineer graduated from StPetersburg Polytechnical Institute. He served as Deputy Head of this laboratory. Tungsten reference electrode designed by Ts.Ya. Rabinovich is described.

Nikitin L.V. Changes of the electrode potentials of metals under their mechanical deformation. Communication I (experimental part) // Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii. 1939. V. 9. P. 794-803, in Russian. This and subsequent works of Leonid Vasilievich Nikitin are affiliated with the Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics (ИТМО). The next part was published in 1941.

Sergey Aleksandrovich Strelkov was an active inventor, who patented verious pH-meters before WWII. No affiliation is indicated, but presumably he worked in StPetersburg before WWII.

Vitalyi Grigorievich Khlopin (1890-1950) was radiochemist, who headed Radium Institute. Anna Moiseyevna Gurevich (1906-1982) was his co-worker, this and the next article present the results of her PhD thesis on uran peroxo compounds.

Ioffe V.S. On overpotential<s> of metals // Uspekhi Khimii. 1943. V. 12. P. 438-451, in Russian. The author worked in the Institute of Applied Chemistry, where he completed his PhD thesis in 1941. Judging from his next 1944 article, he studied mechanical properties of electrodeposited metals.

Okatov A.P. On the direction of cathodic/anodic processes // Zhurnal Obshchei Khimii. 1946 V. 16. P. 379-394, in Russian, abstract in English (P. 393-394). Aleksandr Petrovich Okatov (1889-1953) was technical chemist known mostrly for silica gel research. This article of him is affiliated with Military-Technical Academy.

This article is affiliated with Novocherkassk Industrial Institute, where A.L.Rotinyan worked for a short period, but we included it to this collection, as the previous parts published in 1939 (see above starting from Part I) are of StPetersburg origin.
