Applied electrochemistry

In the tradition of applied electrochemistry, the priorities are typically fixed by patents, which are less easily available and less transparent than the scientific articles. Four branches conditionally separated in this collection have essentially different history, and their roots also have specific features in respect to available sources.

Electroplating, power sources, and electrolysis are the branches which development formally started immediately after Volta pile invention. However, they became really applied areas much later, and their industrial scales are essentially different. There is also a difference in the key electrochemical phenomena and concepts most important for each of these branches, despite there are numerous more particular intersections. Our classification is based just on the phenomena, so we separate one more branch: anodic processes of electrochemical surface finishing.

From the first glance, the resulting list looks incomplete, as there is no corrosion protection and electroanalysis (sensors). Purely electrochemical essence of these multidisciplinary branches is presented in Electrode kinetics pages.
