Publications of Viktor A. Pleskov

We separate publications of Viktor Arturovich Pleskov (1907-1951) from the lists of Frumkin school publications, as he never belonged to this school directly (but was very close to it). Many of these works are unique, as our current knowledge of electrode potentials in non-aqueous solvents is still incomplete and sometimes disputable. There is a large series “Physico-chemical properties of solutions in liquefied gases“, with numbers and subtitles. At this stage we found Parts III (1931/32), IV (1932), VI (1933), VIII, IX, XI (1935), XV, XVII, XVIII (1937), XXIV (1939).

V.A. Pleskov was very active in discussions of Kanevskyi’s ‘absolute potential’. This exhausting discussion contained a number of misunderstandings and sometimes mixed terminological and substantive points, but it is surely of historical interest.

Pleskov‘s comment to Kanevskyi potential: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1949. V. 23. P. 104.

Comment of Pleskov and Ershler on determination of a single potential drop from spectroscopic and thermochemical data: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1949. V. 23. P. 101-103. This is discussion with E. Gapon, which intersected with discussion of Kanevskyi potential.

Kanevskyi’s answer to Pleskov: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1950. V. 24. P. 254-255.

The next Pleskov‘s comment: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii 1950. V. 24. P. 379.

Kanevskyi’s answer to repeated objections of Pleskov (“Is it possible to develop thermodynamic theory of the electrode potential?”): Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1950. V. 24. P. 1511-1514.

Kanevskyi: Zh Fiz Khim (1951) 25:854 ;

Ershler BV, Pleskov VA Zh Fiz Khim (1951) 25:1258

Kanevskyi’s articles in Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1952. V. 26. P. 633- and 1953. V. 27. P. 296-309.

Ershler’s comment to Discussion on the “absolute” potential scale: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1954. V. 28. P. 957-960.

The next Kanevsky’s comment was published in Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1954. V. 28. P. 1228, and induced further discussion with Yu.A. Zaidenman.

His later articles: Electrode potential and electrochemical potential of the electrone in metal // Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1954. V. 28. P. 1228-1234; On the origin of electrode potential // Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1954. V. 28. P. 1427-1433.

Kanevsky’s answer to Zaidenman: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1956. V. 30. P. 1184; further Zaidenman’s comments: Zhurnal Fizicheskoi Khimii. 1956. V. 30. P. 2124; P. 2125.
